Ultrasonic sound waves
The ultrasonic thickness gauge emits ultrasonic waves with a known wavelength through
the probe into the material. These waves travel through the material and reflect back.
By calculating the travel time of waves, the thickness of the material is determined.
E-E (Echo to Echo)
E-E measurement focuses only on the portion of the ultrasonic signal that reflects between
the inner and outer surfaces of the base material, ignoring coatings such as paint or other
surface layers. This method is ideal for measuring materials with coatings or surface treatments,
as it provides more accurate readings of the material thickness alone.
T-E (Through Echo)
T-E measurement calculates the total travel time of ultrasonic waves as they pass
through the material and reflect back from the opposite side. This method is used for
measuring materials without coatings, as ultrasonic waves will travel through any surface layers,
potentially distorting the measurement results.
